Can't browse domain after setting up VPN

The company has 4 servers (all 2003 std)
Server 1 - AD and Exchange
Server 2 - Blackberry (BES) and AVG (antivirus)
Server 3 - Terminal Services
Server 4 - Fax and misc

The problem started a few weeks back when we tried to setup the VPN connection on Server2. We used routing and remote access and followed the wizard, but as soon as we had finished the wizard, we lost all access to the server. We could dial in, but the server would dish out a random IP address (which had no relation to the range with use on the network).

So we disabled routing and remote access to quickly get things working again. But once we did this, we could only browse the server if we manually typed in the IP address. We noticed the DNS records for server2 were not on the domain controller (server1), so had to manually add them. Once we had done this, we could browse to server2 by typing in it's name (Server2). But after several restarts of the servers, server2 still wouldn't show up when browsing the domain.

This has caused problems with the antivirus software as client PCs have had problems accessing the server to download the latest updates. Our network scanners have also stopped scanning to server2 (they scan to the other servers fine). Whether the scanners used SMB or ftp to connect to the server.

We have since re-enabled routing and remote access on server2 (just followed the wizard again) and we can now connect in remotely. But otherwise the server remains the same.
