The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

On one computer only: Deny internet access but allow use of Outlook email

Asked by rayhorn13 in Windows Networking, Networking Hardware, Computer Servers

We have one problem child that wants to grab naughty stuff from the internet.  Bad enough that he exposes our network to a number of things, but he charges many hours to "misc. time" while doing it.  We don't have anyone else in the office who has a problem, so we're not going to restrict anyone else.

So, I want to deny him use of the internet except for a couple of sites, if possible.  If it's not possible without too many hitches, then so be it - he loses everything.  The big (?) problem is that he needs to be able to continue to use POP3 email through Outlook.

We have Server 2003 on our domain, Active Directory, all of the workstations are XP Pro.  Our network runs from the cable modem, to the router, to the managed gigabit switch (SMC if it matters), and to everything else from there.

Both Firefox and IE7 are installed on his computer and he uses both.  It's also not practical to remove Firefox because sometimes there are users who get on his computer who use that (almost everyone here is a FF fan).  If it makes any difference at all, we use roaming profiles.

My knowledge in this area specifically is very little, although I do have a level of understanding more toward "medium" in other areas.  Try not to confuse me too much.  Please.

Many thanks in advance.
