Question

Multiple RDP sessions via Sonicwall

Asked by: Tomster2

I am working remotely on a small peer to peer network that is protected by a SonicWall firewall.

I have a SonicWall Global VPN license that lets me establish a VPN connection... and I then use RDP to connect to any of the remote computers.

I would like to connect to more than one of the computers.

Is there a way to use RDP on my computer to create connection to multiple computers on the remote network?  i.e. two RDP sessions - each one to a different computer on the remote network - from the same computer in my office?

I can make a connection to computer 1.  But when I open RDP and try to make a connection to computer 2... I get an hourglass... which then goes away along with the RDP window... but only the connection to computer 1 is visible.

Any one know of a way to do this?

You are using RDP after connecting to the VPN? You should be able to make more RDP connections, You may need to check the firewall settings/logs to see if your 2nd rdp connection is blocked by a rule.

Check out mremote.
I use it to connect to up to ten or twelve servers simultaneously.
It's free, uses RDP and manages your simultaneous connections for you in a tabbed view.

The problem you are having is that all the computers are listening on port 3389 for RDP connections. Your firewall maybe has a rule setup to NAT RDP to just one computer. Can you post a screenshot of your firewall rules?

If this is the case, you should remove that rule via the Sonicwall webGUI.

The VPN connection allows you to connect as if you are on the same network and therefore should allow connection to any computer. Close all connections and then try to connect only to computer 2. What happens?

Was able to try this again today and connections are going through fine to multiple computers.

Did not make any changes on remote or local firewall so suspect that there was a glich on my workstation that was cleared up with a reboot.

So it is possible with the equipment and configuration I have.  Will split the points for the suggestions that apply to troubleshooting this configuration i.e. no points for third party solutions as they were not applicable in this case.

Thank you for the replies.
