Intermittently loss access to certain folders in network drive

I am supporting a small business with three computers all running Windows XP SP3, with Windows Server 2008 standard. For afew days everything will work fine, and then sometimes certain users, (it happens to all three sometimes a different times, sometimes all at the same time, but pretty sure it affects everything just not everyone access it at the same time) will not be able to access certain folders with a network drive and are sometimes unable to access the network drive at all, Windows XP just freezes and eventually restarts explorer.exe (start bar, and icons). Any idea how to resolve this issue, if checked DNS and all PC are recieving automatic DNS config and i can see all PC's and their expiration through DHCP. Any ideas on whats causing this issue and how to resolve it would be much appreciated.

Norton internet security 2011 on all the workstations and Symantec endpoint protection on the server, I've heard Sep causes issues should I try replacing it with his 2011

Also, check the PDCe for events in the 8000's. You may have a browser conflict when a certain computer logs on. If so, disable the browser service on all clients and manually delegate the PDCe as the domain master browser with a reg edit.

DNS is not necessarily the cause of CIFS shares. In fact, traditionally, most folks map network drives by computername. This will result in a Netbios query to resolve the UNC map.  Intermittent access to these shares is usually caused by a system state firewall (like SEP) or a browser conflict, hence problems with netbios resolution. If it's a master browser conflict, the events within the event logs of the PDCe you will see are 8021, 8032 or 8003 usually.

Okey, Ive uninstalled SEP and replaced it with Norton IS 2011, if that dosent work ill try uninstalling it completely. Im not to sure about PDCe but if what ive tried dosent work ill research it check it and report back, thanks in advance.
Just check it for Event log entries in the 8000's.. I can provide the information to help you with browser conflicts..
In the event viewer:

Event Viewer (Local)>Custom Views>Server Roles>File Server: There are a large amount of entries within ID's in the 8000's. But they are all information non of them are warnings so i dont think they are anything to worry about, but not sure.

Event Viewer (Local)>Windows Logs>Application: There are a large amount of entries with ID's within the 8000's. Again all are informational in nature.

The issue related to Symantec Endpoint Protection, ChiefIT's step by step guidance allowed me to not only quickly identify potential solutions but also confirm the problem did not relate to other areas of the network.
