Can't ping/telnet to one computer on network
i have one computer on my network that i cannot ping or vnc into. I tried pinging from the server, a desktop and point to point router (both ends) and no luck. Pinging by computer name will show the ip address but no successful pings. the computer can ping other pc's just fine and has all access to network drives, email and internet. I checked the dns on my server and see the computer in there with the correct name/info. Any ideas?
This is a windows 7 pc with the windows firewall controlled via group policy. No issues with any other computers.

You may want to check to see if the local windows firewall is causing the issue. I know you are pushing GPO, but with windows 7 I have encounter local FW policies that supersede the GPO.

I'll check the local firewall again. It has to be something stupid. It was working a few weeks ago.

So I checked the firewall and I think the issue is it's not recognizing the pc is connected to a domain. the network icon is showing as not connected, no connections available. i think i need to change how the local windows firewall sees this connection (public, work, domain) but I can't change it. thoughts?

Have you tried disabling the local FW yet?

i turned off the firewall by shutting down via admin-services. I can't just shut off via control panel due to the group policy settings. Stopping the firewall didn't make a difference. my other option is to do a system restore or just wipe/reinstall windows.

so i've disabled the firewall (no luck), uninstalled/reinstalled the network adapter (no luck). network/sharing still says no connections are available (and the network icon in the lower right has a red x when you highlight it). i've also tried joining a workgroup & then rejoining the domain. no luck. i'm out of ideas besides reinstalling the OS.

Is this a notebook or PC.
If notebook and it has VPN software installed they sometimes have a second firewall.
Also, some nVidia cards also have a firewall. You really don't need more than on firewall.
