Network Adapters Hidden in Windows 2008 R2?

I have 1 GB NIC as well as a Dual Port 10 GB NIC's in a server.  The 1 GB NIC is available and visible as well as working.  I am trying to configure the 10 GB NIC to a switch for better performance.  At some point while changing SFP's the 10 GB NIC's either completely disappeared or only 1 of the 2 is visible.  When only 1 shows it is set to DHCP.  When I try to reuse the IP I had set on the hidden one I get a message that the IP is in use.

Any ideas how this could have happened?  I have tried downgrading the driver as well as upgrading.  If the 10 GB is physically connected to the switch I have a good link indicator at each end but the Network Adapters shows this NIC with a red splat X.

Does this indicate an underlying issue in the Registry or corruption somewhere else. I have swapped the 10 GB dual port NIC with an identical card with the same results.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

OK. This makes sense.
I will need to use the adapter in this server once it is cleaned up though.
Should I physically remove the NIC then perform the steps you outlined or do them with the new in place?
There is nothing dimmed at all.  The problem adapter shows this:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Unfortunately I need a solution sooner than later
Remove the NIC first then go through the steps.  Then try reinstalling the card.

Let me know what happens.
I just completed these steps - it isn't visible or unhidden.
What next?
Thx
So the NICs are not showing up anymore, even with the card in there?

Sounds like a problem with the NIC card or slot. Can you try the NIC card in another server?
No and thank you very much for the quick response.

You asked me to remove the card and then look for and delete the hidden adapter.  I have the adapter OUT of the server and it's up and there are no hidden NIC's
Ok cool, so you should be good to insert the NIC back on the server and test it out again.

Before you do though, and sorry to ask but I have to make sure. When you ran the commands, did you run them one after the other? I've done it in the past where I do the "set devmgr..." command and just open up the device manager on my own, but its not showing the hidden adapters.

So to do it properly you have to make sure to close out any device manager windows already open, then:
Start -> Run -> cmd

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
devmgmt.msc

(both of the commands in the same command prompt window)

It should open up a Device Manager window, go to View -> click on Show Hidden Devices, and expand the Network Adapters tree.

Again, just need to make sure this was run properly.

If everythings good, then pop that NIC back in and try it again. Let me know how it goes, but at least you should be able to put in that IP address that was giving you an error.
Hi -

I did follow those steps exactly.
I just put in a new card, same model and manufacturer and both ports came up as unknown adapters or something...
I installed the Dell driver after plugging in the fiber and it installed and came up as an Error Code 43
Try running this to see if it helps.

Sounds like a driver issue. Try installing the manufacturer's driver. What card did you buy and what's the server model?
Not sure if that's going to do it.  A lot of people are having issues with this NIC.
Nothing has worked.
