network shared printers

Hello everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster.

I'm with a Mid-level company and we have 3 canon multi-fuction copiers and about 15 HP officejet pro K550/k5400.  The k5400 is the newest model, k550 its the same platform, but the K5400 is just a newer model.  We are using a MS platform print server.  MS server 2003.

Here is the problem,

For no ryhme or reason the HP printers will just stop working on the network.  the Canons never have this problem.  The HP printers will show a ready status with no jobs in the queue.. but when you try to send a job to the hp printer it does nothing.  Does not show the job or anything. Just shows ready with no print job,  But you can print a test page..  The only fix I have found it to completely delete the printer off the server and recreate in under the same port.  After I do this it works fine.  Its not just one printer doing this.  the printers are random and no specific way they are breaking..

I would appreciate any help..
