You can install a modem driver (should be on the CD). Here, I'm using it without any drivers, since I pass GSM commands directly.

It works for me at 9600 baud, never tried to change though.

What do you want to configure ? What will be the main use of it ?

by: kristiawanPosted on 2003-07-03 at 16:43:39ID: 8853428

unfortunely, i do not have the CD :-(
I will try to treat it as a standard modem, 9600 baud...
btw, what do you mean by "pass GSM command directly" ?
I will use it for a SMS gateway, connected with sensors and become telemonitoring system.

by: _nn_Posted on 2003-07-03 at 18:14:44ID: 8853737

So your application will only use it for SMS sending / receiving ? My own app does only that and I didn't use any drivers. Just open the serial port at correct speed and start dealing with SMS operations with the GSM 07.05 / 07.07 command sets.

Surprising that you don't have a CD, but the docs are available at

It's OK now, I use standard modem driver, running on 9600 baud rate. thanks

by: deepice_njuptPosted on 2003-07-20 at 22:49:48ID: 8965140

hi,_nn_,what do you mean by the modem driver on the CD?Is it specialized to the TC35 module for WIN 98?If so,can you send me a copy?my email is "deepice@elong.com",thank you in advance.
and, kristiawan, what do you mean by standand modem driver?vcomm.vxd?have you tried the data communication using the TC35 through the driver?

by: kristiawanPosted on 2003-07-23 at 00:18:09ID: 8983730

Hi deepice_njupt, I manually configure the TC35 modem (because my windows XP do not automatically recognize the hardware), using "add hardware wizard" and manually choose the standard 9600 bps modem in the list.

We normally install as a 19,200bps modem, but there is now an INF file - posted below - copy the text into a file called mdmsiewm_v2.6.inf, and away you go!

Hi All,
I use Siemens TC35 GSM Module. I have to use this as an modem to dial up an ISP, then connect to an Internet connection & then transmit data to an particular website. These datas are then manipulated using the IIS server.
Now tell me, How to I dialup an ISP & provide the Username & password & rest other acknowledgements.
Also is that possible of sending the direct data calls to an other GSM Module & read the datas from them, If so How to do the data calls & how to recive them.
If using the GPRS can we directly connect to the website(IP address), as soon as the GPRS mopdule is switched ON. If so what are the steps to do so??
Pls help me with the source code available or with the Hints or steps to be done.
Its very urgent so pls help me out.

Thanks in advance.

I'm using the Siemens MC388, but will probably switch over to the MC45. I also need to write data to a web site. Actually, we want to transmit text data over the GPRS network (over the internet) to a specific IP address where a program at that IP address will be listening on a certain port for the incoming data.

If that's what you want to do, and you just want a simple text connection to an IP socket, then you need a TC45 with externalcommands.jar (www.tdc.co.uk/gprs/tc45.htm) which allows you to do just that.  You would otherwise need to write a client program, or use something like Hyperterminal in IP client mode to use the 388 or MC45 otherwise.

Hi

Thanks for the comment. Actually, the TC388 modem will connected to a data logger, so all the AT commands sent to the modem will be coming from a microprocessor (so well be using embedded programming). On the receiving end, there will be a computer with a permanent internet connection and static IP address, listening on a certain port (the same port that the transmitter is writing to) for incoming data (simple text data). We are using a Windows computer at the moment with the modem plugged into COM1 and HyperTerminal for communicating with the modem, but in the end, as mentioned, the modem will be connected to a data logger.

Now, I know that to connect the modem to the GPRS network, the following commands are required:

AT+CGDCONT = 1,"IP","internet.gprs","0.0.0.0",0,0<cr>(1-GPRS context setting)
AT#USERID = "Happy User"<cr>(2-Authentication setting)
AT#PASSW = "EASY GPRS"<cr>(2-Authentication setting)
AT#SKTSET= 0,80," www.gsm-modem.de"<cr>(3-remote host setting)

The first line executes perfectly, with the modem returning an "OK". But the next 3 lines generate the "ERROR" message. Any idea why? I also have one more question - even if I manage to connect to the GPRS network, how to I transmit the data (simple text data)? Do I just send the data out the serial port to the modem just like in a standard dial-up connection between 2 modems?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The 3 lines you mention are not part of the Siemens command set.  There are equivalent commands in externalcommands.jar.  If you connect to the GPRS network, you need to provide TCP/IP formatted data.  If you want a simple text connection, please use the TC45 with externalcommands.jar.
