Send SMS message to a mobile phone from PC with GSM modem

hi guys!

i'm developing an application (school project) that will send and receive SMS message from a PC to a mobile phone and vice-versa. I have a GSM modem. I have to use Visual Basic 6 as the interface. I know I have to use it's MSComm component to manage the SMS messages to/from the PC but I'm new with it and I'm new with serial communications. I really don't know how to start my program. Do I have to use AT commands and others? Can anybody help me? Give me some sites that could help me start my program. Can somebody give me some tips or source code if possible that I could start with? My email address is bloss_029@yahoo.com.

You have to use AT commands.  You can search the internet/google for "AT+CMGS", this is the command required for you to send out an SMS.

E.g.

AT+CMGF=1 (change modem to text mode)

AT+CMGS="0111111" (your mobile number)
Your message here
Ctrl-Z

Here goes your SMS!

In a Java environment you could use the Java COMM API (package javax.comm if I remember well). Many source codes are available on the web. If you are know familiar with Java you could get it easer with an IDE like Intellij IDEA.

I am doing a school project which needs to send and receive SMS via a GSM modem from a PC to a mobile phone and vice-versa. We are given a GSM modem and using java programming (J2SE). We had also used the JFrame builder for the GUI, and JSMS engine (www.jsmsengine.org) as the API to communicate with the PC application and modem. Do I have to use AT commands and others?
