I have the same problem!
Device is Linksys WRT54G V6
Firmware v1.00.9
The DHCP module keeps trying to allocate the first ip address in the scope regardless the fact that had already allocated it to other device before.
The work around for me was to manually add a specific IP (within the DHCP scope) to the laptop, making sure it's registered and then set back the laptop TCP/IP settings to "obtain an IP address automatically". this way, the dhcp will allocate the same IP you had set manually. But it will only work until the lease expires and then again default to the first IP address in the scope...So this is not a stable solution.
I'm trying to update the firmware to 1.02.00 see if it solves this issue.

ioan

What is the IP address of the computer getting the conflict? Are all of your computers set with DHCP IP addresses, or do any of them have static IP addresses? What are the default IP addresses of your Wireless-G Expander and your router / NAT device? Is your wireless network secure?
It sounds like there may be a static IP address conflicting with a DHCP IP address. I would make a list of all IP addresses for all devices that have an ethernet port on your network (or at least the static IP addresses). Then look at your DHCP scope to see if there are any possible conflicts. Assuming you find a conflict, update your DHCP scope, or change the static IP addresses so they don't conflict.
If you still don't see a problem, then try a "repair" on your computer with the conflict, or you may have somebody accessing your wireless network that shouldn't be on, and they may have a static IP with the conflict.
