I finally found documentation (on the Cisco site) how to start the AP to diagnostic mode and used TFTP to upload a new IOS to replace the corrupt one. I did this by holding in the 'Mode' button when I plug the power in and hold it for 30 seconds until the middle light stays red. The AP will automatically connect to the TFTP and start downloading the IOS. I then followed the original manual to configure the AP (browse to 10.0.0.1), etc.

I'm sorry to say, but you may very well be out of luck. It sounds like the firmware update did not complete successfully. I would strongly suggest that you contact Cisco support directly for this problem, to see if they have any other options for when a firmware update fails.
