What program should I use? Excel or Access

I have a work related project. I'm not sure what program is better fit for this project - Excel or Access. I currently maintain project information in Access and it has been requested that I create some kind of income projection report based on completion dates of each project.  Could this be done in Access or is Excel a better tool for projecting income and what are your reasons. Do you have any suggestions.
