iPass & WEP Shared Encryption

Hi All,

We currently use iPass for all our clients to connect remotely via a wireless connection (either at home or away from the office).

We've recently upgraded our clients to the latest version (don't have the details to hand), but can't seem to connect to a wireless network if the encryption on the router is WEP Shared. This is causing some problems because if we provide a client with home broadband, the router we provide them uses a WEP Shared encryption key. Not being able to solve the problem, or make a change on the router with regards to encryption type will require a massive recall to update the config file.

So my question is, has anyone managed a successful connection with iPass? Or does anyone know how to change the ini file to allow the connection? At the moment, we get an error saying it was unable to assciocate itself with "RouterName". The key has been entered correctly.

We have tested it, and it does work with WEP Open, and WPA. Please note I'm not asking for a debate on different security types; we've since been made aware WEP Shared is not ideal(!)

In iPass Connect, is Network Authentication set to Shared Mode, in Settings, on the Advanced tab?

Thanks for your reply.

I've managed to find out we're using version 3.50.

It appears we don't have an advanced tab. I can get into Settings > Connection Settings. I'm then given tabs such as General; Dialup; ISDN; WLAN; Ethernet; Mobile Data.

I've routed around the WLAN tab (it doesn't really let you configure much), but the only encryption settings it has is:
- WEP
- WPA_PSK/TKIP
- WPA_PSK/AES
- WPA2_PSK/TKIP
- WPA2_PSK/AES

Now normally you'd think to choose WEP, but it appears to only like WEP Open, when I need it to somehow use WEP Shared.

Ideas greatly appreciated...

It later transpires that iPass 3.5 no longer supports WEP (Shared) encryption.

iPass Support:
"This configuration("shared Key" mode authentication) cannot be used within the iPassConnect GUI.  Also, I do not believe it can be configured through a CBook (customer phonebook).  iPassConnect will support most available 802.1x protocols through the CBook so I would recommend you to use 802.1x for Network Authentication and have a CBook entry added to your profile."

I will raise a ticket with Community Support for this question to be closed.
