Likely you need to go into the router's web-based management interface and enable its wireless functions (probably listed under 'wireless mode' with variables of A, B, G/B, Mixed, Disabled, and/or others), give it a unique SSID (to differentiate it from any others in the neighborhood) and broadcast it if you want the laptop to be able to 'see' it, and enable DHCP for wireless connections. Get it talking to the laptop first, then enable security (e.g. WEP or WPA). Once you have the connection securely setup on your laptop, you can even turn off the SSID broadcast but then the laptop probably won't connect to it automatically (i.e. you would have to select the wireless network from a list and tell it to connect).
