Couple of questions relating to shared drives in a simple workgroup

I have 2 questions but i believe they are probably relative.

1.
All my PC's are on the same physical network where all the wall ports run back to a 16 port switch
I can see all th ePC's but when I try and connect I get the standard login box and it defaults to \\PCname\Guest and asks me to login. I have shared the root drive of 'PCname' and thought that would be it.

2.
The Laptop we have connects through a LINKSYS wireless router connected to one of the 16 wall ports.
when trying to go through Network Places>Microsoft windows Network>Workgroup
I get the message "workgroup is not accessible" It deosn't even get into the workgroup like all the others.
What is wrong?
