Is my USR9106 not capable of bridging? I don't really want to have to buy another unit...
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI am running my ADSL connection via BT Home Hub. I have 3 laptops that connect wirlessly via WPA-PSK to get internet access. Occasionally I do some ad-hoc sharing of folders with passwords to enable file transfer between each one but I probably do this a different way each time.
All is working fine.
The BT Home Hub resides on the ground floor.
I have a Kyocera-Mita FS-1000+ laser printer with optional network card sat on my desk upstairs. It is a wired ethernet connection but has nowhere to plug into and therefore I can't share it out. Worse, it's parallel port connection only - my newer laptop only has USB connections.
Sat redundant at present is a US Robotics 9106 SureConnect ADSL wireless modem/router.
I wish to find some way for me to plug the ethernet cable from the printer to the USR unit. I wish the USR unit to behave as the printer's own dedicated wireless adapter so that my laptops can connect via the BT Home Hub to my printer.
Question 1: IS THIS POSSIBLE?
Question 2: Step by step, for the benefit of a software guy who has a VERY sketchy knowledge of ethernet and TCP-IP (even less about wireless) and who has looked at generic descriptions of similar scenarios on the web - can you describe what I must do to get this operational.
Many thanks
Greg

I would recommend a wireless bridge. It will connect a ethernet device to a wired network.
