The Solution Rating System
|
|
| With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating. - The Grade of the Solution
- The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
- The Number of Author and Expert Comments
- The Number of Experts Contributing
- The Feedback of the Community
Your Input Matters Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site. If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support. Thank you! |

Asked by grandrew in Wireless Technologies, Networking Hardware
I just recently purchased a Linksys WRT160N wireless router. I have connected the router and made the necessary configuration changes, (changed password, setup wireless security, etc.) I have my desktop connected via a wired connection and a laptop via a wireless connection. I do not seem to be having any issues with the laptop but the desktop is having issues connecting to web sites. It appears that it is having problems resolving DNS. For example, if I want to do to yahoo.com it sometimes comes up and sometimes not. I go to a command prompt and try to ping
www.yahoo.com with no response. Not even a request time out. I can then attempt to ping a known ip address at my office, 75.145.xxx.xxx and it pings without an issue most of the time. This is why I believe it is a DNS issue. I have hard coded the DNS servers into my desktop and still have issues. I can plug my old Linksys router in, which is what I am using right now, and have not issues. I can also directly connect my PC to the cable modem with no issues. I assumed the router was defective and took it back to Circuity City for an exchange and brought the new one home and set it up and have the same issues! Linksys tech support is a joke. I spoke to someone who took me through a setup procedure much like I did on my own and still have the issue. They then told me they would transfer me to level 2 tech support and they never answer. I am on hold for more than 30 minutes and the line disconnects. Since Circuit City is closing there is no returns or exchanges now. So I am stuck with this thing.
At this point I can only assume there must be some type of compatibility issue with my desktop network card and the Linksys wired ports. I have tried several wired ports with same results.
If anyone has suggestions on what to do next, please reply to this post.
