Set the wireless router to a static IP from the main router, give the main router IP as the gateway of the wireless router, and turn off DHCP in the wireless router. That should probably do it for you. .... ThinkPads_User

ok I have set the mimo to static and give it the ip address of the isp along with the DFGW and DNS. I have switched off DHCP and give my laptop a static ip. the wireless access point only has a place for it's own ip this I have set to 192.168.2.254 I have added the mac address for the mimo in the wireless access point but I still cannot ping either one from the other eg: connected to the mimo I cannot ping 192.168.2.254 and when connected to the AP I cannot ping the mimo.

The mimo wants an IP address from the main router (192.168.2.x) not from the ISP. The Gateway address should be the inside IP of the main router (192.168.2.1 probably), and it doesn't need any DNS settings. The point is that DHCP and DNS will from from the main router.

I would not give your laptop a static IP. Let it get it address from the main router.

Another idea is to turn off the mimo.
I never bridged over Belkin, but once had the same problem on Buffalo.
Locking the router on wireless G did the trick.
It is easy to try.

I think we are getting crossed up here somewhere. Let me try again. I have just switched over to cable I have a cable modem from Virgin connected to that is the new Belkin Mimo G+ router, then I have a Wireless access point (F5D7130) that I am trying to connect to the Mimo to create a wireless bridge.

I had to give my Laptop a static IP, I needed to do this so I could connect to the Mimo the Mimo is the main router, and you said in you last reply to turn off DHCP.

by: engeltjePosted on 2009-03-02 at 02:41:26ID: 23772893

We need to start up right.
First of all, I think you are turning things around.
The mimo Belkin router should be the main router being connected to the cable modem.
The access point shoul be the bridge.
The mimo router has't to be set up as a bridge, the access point does.
In the access point you should be able to set up WDR (which is in fact bridging).
If there is no possibility to do so: the firmware of the access point should be upgraded.

For doing this: http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D7130&aid=1478&scid=221

Now, if you have WDR mode, you should enter the mac adress of the mimo router to setup the bridge.
Further choose the same channel and SSID for the access point as has been chosen for the mimo router.

A PC connecting to the bridge, should pick up the DCHP info trough the bridge from the mimo router.

Hope I understood the question well, and this helps.

There is no harm in switching around which router is the main router. My point about DHCP was to turn in off in the access point, and leave it on in the main router. So I still think you should set your laptop to DHCP after you sort out which router is the main router. ..... T

I think we are on the same level now.

The mimo Belkin router should be the main router being connected to the cable modem.
This is correct the Mimo is my main router.

The access point shoul be the bridge.
Correct this is what I am trying to achieve.

In the access point you should be able to set up WDR (which is in fact bridging).
The access point has a wireless bridge setting and I have already tried to add the Mimos Mac address but it does not seem to want to connect.
Thanks for you input by the way it is appreciated.

I have looked around for bridging with Belkin devices. It seems the router has to be configured too to support bridging.

Check this short tutorial:

Router Configuration
1. Open a Web Browser
2. In the address bar type http://192.168.2.1
3. Click on Wireless Bridge in the left hand column under Wireless
4. Enter your password if any and click Submit
5. Check the box that says Enable Wireless Bridging, click Apply Changes.
6. Click Home, note the WLAN MAC address under LAN settings

Access Point Configuration.
1. Open a Web Browser
2. In the address bar type http://192.168.2.254
3. Click on Wireless Bridge in the left hand column under Wireless
4. Enter your password if any and click Submit
5. Check the box that says, Enable Wireless Bridging
6. Check the box that says, Enable ONLY specific Access Points to connect and enter the WLAN MAC address from the router, click Apply Changes.
Note: The channel must be identical on both the router and the access point.

Note: The WDS feature is not completely specified in IEEE or Wifi standards. Therefore interoperability between 802.11 products of different vendors is not guaranteed.

This is what I can find on bridging Wireless router and access point, both Belkin.

Does this help?

Belkin states that is the router itself does not support bridging it should be firmware upgraded. However, since it is a mimo, it should be recent enough to support this natively.

The Mimo router model is f5d9230-4v3 as you say in point 3
3. Click on Wireless Bridge in the left hand column under Wireless
This does not exsist in this router's menu.

It is in the access point but not in the router. This is my problem.

I had all this set up on my other belkin modem router before I moved over to cable, thats why I bought another Belkin router.
I thought it was going to be easy :-).

Sorry forgot to mention both the router and the access point ard both made by Belkin.
Router model F5D9230-4v3
Wireless access point model F5D7130

I have figured a way to connect a wireless bridge, I have bought another Belkin Wireless access point model F5D7130 I have hard wired one to the belkin router and used the other one to bridge works a treat.
Thanks to everyone for your idea's but as there was no ref to wireless bridging in the menu of the belkin router looks like it is not capable of working in this way.

by: engeltjePosted on 2009-03-10 at 08:39:18ID: 23847953

It should have worked. Belkin states in its router description there should be WDS.
If not, they want you to do the trick with a firmware update.

Glad you got a solution on this.
