Open a command prompt and type IPCONFIG. Look for then entry pretaining to your wireless connection.
It should show an ip address. It the ip address starts out 169.x.x.x, then you are not acquiring an ip from the router.
If the wireless is in a disconnected state (no ip address), then the laptop failed to associate with the router and the Authentication, Encruption, and/or the key may be incorrect.
