Help needed to setup bridge router to work with AT&T dsl 2 wire 2701HG-B

I purchased a Zyxel P-330W to remotely connect wired PC and a laptop in "wireless client bridge" mode to a 2Wire 2701HG-B that will be in my shop next to my house. I have tried to set it up, but it will not connect. I am just not doing something right as I know some here are using the P-330W to do this. Can any one help with my setup?

I'm in a rush to get to a family event, so I can temporarily  input suggestion.
Before anything, factory reset both to default, pressing and holding the pinhole button behind each for about 40seconds.

I'm not familiar with the 2wire from att but the concept is the same. You want to FIRST connect to the 2wire access the internal menu and set it in BRIDGE MODE...This means the 2h is acting like a DSL modem only. After that, connect the cable from 2h into the wan/internet port of zyxel. Turn on 2h first..wait till it cycles, then zyxel..then pc. see if you can connect.

Of course you'll have to set the wireless name to something you prefer instead of the default and also wifi key.

I'll be back in evening and can help guide if you still need it by then, or perhaps someone will post steps for 2wire/Zyxel

Thanks for the reply.
The 2 wire is a wireless gateway that is provided by At & T. I want to extend the wireless to another area by my house with the Zyxet set in bridge mode. I did follow the instructions provided by Zyxet,  but  I do not know how to set it up to connect to the 2 wire. I still need the 2 wire in wireless mode also. I have seen some post before where ones using the 2 wire wireless modem have done this setup.  I did a search for the information on how some had done the setup an only found where they had done it but no how.

The 2 wire is already set to bridge mode.

Hmm you still want the 2wire to do wireless and the zyxel at the same time? If so, bridge mode in 2wire should be disabled. If yu wanting both to provide you access to internet, here's the simple steps I would do..
I'm going to assume the 2wire has ports available in the back, like most standard routers do as I post this.

First disable the bridge mode. Take note of the Gateway IP of the 2wire. Example, most routers are usually 192.168.1.1. For this example, we'll assume its that same one.

Once bridge disabled and you noted gateway IP. I will unplug it from PC, and plug Zyxel straight to pc, power it on. You should have cable from pc going into any of the 4ports behind the zyxel, not the wan port.
Access the menu via browser, again it might be the standard 192.168.1.1, if you don't know, click start, run and type in CMD, hit enter then type  ipconfig /all .

You'll see the gateway ip listed.  In this case lets say both are 192.168.1.1, once in the zyxel menu, I would change the dhcp of the zyxel to start at ..lets say 192.168.2.1, and leave internet setup to dhcp automatic.

then unplug everything, plug the 2wire back to pc, and connect the zyxel to any of the 4 ports of the 2wire. If any issues I would power on 2wire first, then Z second. You should now have both giving wireless (You'll have 2 different names to be configured) and both have available active ethernet ports in back that will give access.

I think this is what you trying to do? OR are you wanting to JUST make the zyxel into a accesspoint?
I'm responding by iPhone not yet home, but if I'm mistaken someone please assist Ironleg immediately!

I was hoping to connect to the 2 wire  using the wireless an having the z as a accesspoint connect through ethernet & have the z wireless for a laptop. I hope this is clear. I am not sure I can do this but I read of some that have.
If I have to I will run a line to both units with ethernet. ut you have help a lot in the information you have provided.

I guess now I just need to see how to connect the z through the 2 wire wireless and then be able to use the wireless on the zyxel.

I see what you mean. For example, let's say you have the 2wire upstairs wired, and you have the Zyxel downstairs, you want it linked to the 2wire WIRELESSly from downstairs, so you can use the ports/and also have extended your wireless signal downstairs. If I'm right, Try this, connect zyxel to computer, access the menu via browser. There is a native 'wireless client bridge' setting in there, enable that, relate the information of your current wireless network..and move the router wherever you want. Connect your 2wire back up and you should be fine.

Oh..make sure the 2wire is NOT in bridge mode and you know the name of the SSID of your 2wire and wifi key.  Also when everything is done, release/renew IP's if any slight trouble. Or simply shut everything off, turn on 2wire first, then zyxel then PC/laptop and connect.

Looking at the manual of your Zyxel, default ip addresss is 192.168.10.1 and default credentials:
admin/1234

I also see they have a new firmware released march 2009, and release notes claims to fix a handful of bugs/features/etc. I would flash to latest firmware before continuing.

So I would choose the Operation mode "wireless ISP" ?
I assume I would not use the wizard but setup in wireless setting only correct?

I did get it to work with the desktop through the line connection, but the wireless does not show up.  
Steps I took
changed to wireless bridge
Set wireless to client to match wep/ with password.
rebooted an it worked with the LAN connection only- no wireless.
It is connected to the 2 wire by wireless.

I don't know what I need to do to have the z show wireless for my laptop & still be connected by the LAN line to the desktop?

Any ideas would help

If you set it to match wireless by wep pass/ssid the z should also be giving out wifi, It should be giving it out to you with the same SSID as the 2wire. Try going into the Z and changing the SSID into something you'll remember and see if you can see that network wirelessly on laptop.

But let me get this straight..so far, you did get it to connect to your 2wire wireless and it works , but ONLY on the line ports not wirelessly?

Yes I have it connected to the 2 wire with the ports but it does not show as a wireless connection for my laptop. I did rename the SSID an it still is not showing as wireless.

I don't have the combo of hardware listed above, but I'm stumped a bit at what you are trying to do.

If you have the 2wire in your house and you want the Z in your shop and you WANT the Z to give you access in your shop and want the Z to connect to your 2wire WITH NO cables connecting the both (but the ability to connect a local computer to it via ethernet), Then you follow the instructions on the link

In a nutshell set it in bridge in operations mode, input your existing 2wire ssid/wifi key.

If you wanting to connect the Z to your home 2wire via a long ethernet cable,
it can be done but needs configuring.


Bridging to your 2wire

This assumes you are starting with factory default settings
Before you start you need to determine two non conflictig IP addresses on the subnet the P330W will be connecting to. For example if you are using 198.168.1.x mask 255.255.255.0 and your router is 192.168.1.1 and its DHCP server assigns addresses in the range 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.101 then 192.168.1.102 to 192.168.1.254 are available unless you have already used some of them for other devices. You will also need the SSID of your existing wireless router/access point, the wireless encryption type you use, and the key/passphrase you use.

Connect a PC to one of the 330W LAN ports and set it to obtain an IP address automatically (if you have previously disabled the DHCP server on the 330W you will have to manually set the PC to an IP address on the same subnet)
In IE open 192.168.10.1 if the 330W is running newer firmware or 192.168.1.1 for older firmware(or the current IP address of the 330W)
User admin
password 1234
In the LAN setup screen disable the DHCP server, set it to a non conflicting IP address on the same subnet as the rest of your network, and save

Change the PC to use the second non conflicting addresss, correct subnet mask for your netwrk (usually 255.255.255.0) and gateway the IP address of your router.

In IE open the IP address you assigned the 330W
User admin
password 1234
On the operation mode setup screen set bridge and save
On the wireless basic settings screen select client mode, enter the SSID of your network and save
On the wireless security screen select your encryption type, enter the key/passphrase, and save
On the site survey screen refresh, select your wireless network, and connect
Optional and recommended - on the password page enter a new router password and save
If device security is not an issue write the new password and IP address on a sticker and attach sticker to bottom of unit
If your PC normally obtains an IP address automatically, go into the newtwork setting to restore this setting

You should now be connected through the 330W to your wireless network and have access to its setup at its new IP address
