I had Ubuntu 8.01 and changed it to eeebuntu base. Eeebuntu runs faster and has much better screen resolution. I have not found a "striped down" version of ubuntu. Like I said - good news/bad news. Eeebuntu base has a much smaller "footprint" which makes it ideal for my laptop.
I posted this on the eeebuntu forum but eeebuntu is still too new and has not attracted as many of us "geeks" as their are on experts-exchange.
Anybody out there know of any suitable drivers for my ibm?
Thanks for the reply anyway.

eeebuntu is specifically for the Asus eee pc's. you are much better off installing Ubuntu on an IBM. Otherwise you will probably have to load the specific wireless drivers for that laptop.
