Location Free Player Sony

Ok I have a strange issue that has me at a complete loss and I am hopeful that someone ..... anyone can even get me thinking in a different direction.

My network-
I have Verizon Fios with wireless router MI424WR latest firmware.  Connected to the Verizon router I have a netgear wireless router as well.  My Netgear handles my wireless traffic and hands it off to the Verizon for internet connectivity.

I bought a location free player model lf-v30 and I hooked it up to my netgear wireless network.  The thing works great, but it is not accessable from the internet, only on my lan.  So I enable wireless on my Verizon router and leave it wide open to test.  I hook up my PSP and my laptop to the verizon wireless and I get great signal all over my house.  I hook up my location free player to the verizon side and I only get wireless connection with line of sight to the router.  Even my body blocking the location free player stops the signal.

So this is what I have
It can't be the location free as the unit works well on the netgear wireless network.  The netgear is in the basement and the location free still had excellent signal in two floors above.

It can't be the Verizon router since I can connect my psp to the wireless router from two floors up, but I can't connect the location free from 5 feet away if there is somthing blocking it.  Also netstumbler shows great signal with a good SNR.

So if it is not the Verizon router, and it is not the location free player than I have proven that I CANT BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM.  But I am.

Things I have tried:
Tried different channels to make the Verizon router work.
Turned off all wireless devices in my house; netgear router; cell phones; camaras; wireless phones and bases etc.
Rebooting everything in every order mathamatically possible.

Help me please, I am losing my f-ing mind.
