I wanted to know if I coule upgrade my Belkin G Wireless Router to DD-WRT firmware. The reason I want to do this is because I want to connect my FTA box to a physical ethernet connection coming from my wireless router. I currently have a wireless router upstairs and do not want to run the an ethernet connection all around the house. I had previously done this with a Linksys WRT54G router, but have recently sold it and now have this Belkin G Wireless Router.

I just found another WRT54G, but remember upgrading the firware to DD-wrt; however, I also remember resetting it to it's defauts, but now can't connect. How can I install the DD-wrt firmware if I can't even connect to the router to begin with. I've already tried 192.168.1.1 as well as 192.168.0.1, but no luck. Every time I attempt to connect I get a 169.254.x.x IP address, and yes I do have a physical connection from my pc to the router.
Any ideas?
No you are not. It seesm that the system has disabbled DHCP and it can not distribute IP addresses. First of all it might be the result of DCP's clash in you network. So be sure that your new WRT54G is connected to your PC by an UTP patch cord. If you still can't get an address try to manually assign an address in the range say 192.168.1.20 / 255.255.255.0 (GD and DNS has no use here so don't bother trying to assing anything on it)
If you still cant access the router try to rest to factory defaults. But keep in mind that to reset a WRT54G to fctory defaults you should push the reset switch and keep it pressed for at least 30 seconds!!! May be you could not reset becasue you did no depress it for so long.
It is obvious that ou can not upgrade a router which ou don't have TCP/IP access :))

K.
> I'm I crazy or do I not see model # f5d7234-4 version 1000 ?
Yeah it does not seem to be supported. But you can go to forums and ask if it is actually supported or not :)
Gee I'm looking at my LinkSys WAP54G which is sitting at my desk with love now. It's blinking with data. This must be the happiness : )))
I just pushed the red reset button and no dice. I also attempted to hard set the IP to 192.168.1.20 with 255.255.255.0 and no default gateway and no DNS, but again, no luck. This was of course attempted while the UTP cable was connected. I also switched back to DHCP via windows XP LAN network connections, but no luck.
Any ideas?
ok it seems that your router is not responding now. The suggested operation is :
- Push the red button and keep it pushed for 30 secs
- Unplug the router and wait for 5-10 seconds
- Plug it in back
- Push and keep the red button pushed for 30 seconds.
If you don't succed this time I'm afraid your router is dead now :(

K.
