Question

Cannot connect Cisco VPN over wireless

Asked by: Tiras25

Hello -

I have one user that is not able to connect from her home.  Other users are OK.  She has D-Link Model No:  DI 634M.  I am attaching the error message 412.

SO I asked her to enable all VPN passthrough per image attached.  She changed the configs, rebooted, reopened VPN and same thing.  She enabled on everything and only changed the gaming to disabled.  And that didn't work.  Are there other settings need to be updated?

Thanks!!

That error is usually caused by the VPN client's protocols being blocked at some level.  The configuration of the D-Link looks good, but is she running any kind of firewall on her computer that might be blocking things?

I think only standard Win XP firewall..

Let's try turning it off temporarily to see if that resolves it.  At least that way we'll know where to look.

Another thing to consider is what is upstream from her DLink router.  Often times Consumer broadband modems have their own firewalls and you may need to enable VPN pass through on the DSL/Cable modem as well as on the wireless router.

Sounds good. I will try this weekend and will get back to you.  Thanks!!

I feel the points should be split between the two of us who attempted to help.  Since there was no response one would assume that the suggestions worked.

by: alanhardistyPosted on 2010-04-05 at 15:00:35ID: 29837524

Without an answer from Tiras25 - awarding points will keep the question in the EE database.  Keeping questions in the database that do not have a confirmed solution will not help others and as such, this is why I have selected Delete No Refund.

Resolving this question in this way does not suggest that your comments were not good comments, but without confirmation that they solved the question, there is no real choice but to delete the question.

by: ChristianTPosted on 2010-04-05 at 15:05:29ID: 29837880

That's BS.  If I provide support to someone via EE and the help I provide them fixes the problem, but they never respond, they get their problem fixed and lose their points, and I get screwed out of points I should have gotten and in essence wasted my time.  That isn't a good way to encourage people to provide support on the forums.

Whoa!! what's going on here.  Why is the question being closed?  I have no get  a hold of the client yet to confirm the solution completed or not.   EE is too fast on closing questions too soon.

Please keep it open for another few days.

Thanks.

After 21 days - the question gets flagged as abandoned.  The last comment by anyone was on the 4th November 2009 which was 5 months ago, thus would appear to be well and truly abandoned.

by: Tiras25Posted on 2010-04-05 at 15:34:10ID: 29840336

Sorry about that.  I was waiting for the client to report back.  Please hold for another few days until I confirm.
Thank you!
