No 'conversion' would need to be done to connect like that. All that would take is a pigtail. There are only 3 different types of mini connectors (MC, MCX and MMCX), or else they use a proprietary connector... and being made by D-Link, the linked antenna certainly has a RP-SMA plug on it.
So to convert a PCMCIA card (more-likely a cardbus card, identified by the brass dimpled grounding strip across the top of the connecting edge) to use an external antenna you could either buy a pre-assembled pigtail (http://www.l-com.com/item

Yes and it works but make sure:
1. the connector is compatible
2. the other end also has a directional antenna otherwide it will not be able to transmit back as well as it receives. You can try it in one direction and it will bee better but not as good as both ends being directional.
