Hi Byron, Acer Travelmate 2200 Intel Pro Wireless BG2200 NIC not detecting Wifi signal

Following up from EE thread id 27206967 :

I previously installed a volume licence trial copy which lasted 30 days of Win XP OS
on my Acer laptop.  At that time I painstakingly hunt for drivers & some apps to make
the laptop's installation complete & I'm sure the WiFi was working.

Now, I can't login to the laptop as the trial licence expired.  So I reinstalled Win
XP (this is a permanent licence) to a separate folder, retaining the original
c:\windows folder.

I've tracked down all those Acer travelmate 3200 drivers (which include some NIC,
WiFi, audio / speaker & motherboard drivers ) but the WiFi is not detecting :
refer to attachments

I used the WiFi driver from the link below & the Intel ProSet software doesn't
seem to be able to enable the WiFi : refer to 2nd attachment

Q1:
Is it possible for me to copy over the driver from the original c:\windows
folder?

Q2:
So how do I determine the correct WiFi driver needed & where to download it?

Have downloaded the WiFi driver, unzipped the downloaded zip
file &  run the setup.exe but the InstallShield Wizard just paused
at 0% for almost 7 minutes now.

>  your WiFi radio seems to be off - turn it on
As mentioned earlier, ProSet software for WiFi is greyed out.
Let me know if there's any other way to turn it on.  There's a
button with satellite/antenna dish icon on it but if I press this
button, the laptop would crash with BSOD

> select  "Components" and highlight "Problem Devices".
There's no problem devices listed : refer to attached

Drivereasy installed but it did not list WiFi as one of the items
that needs a driver or driver update.  Strange, I recalled the
WiFi was there in the previous install

winsockfix installed & run & rebooted laptop but still no joy.

I found a Netgear WiFi dongle : inserted it into USB port & let
Win XP autoupdate auto-detect & install drivers : can see the
WiFi services but somehow can't connect to my broadband Wifi

After connecting to my broadband Wifi, it says "limited connectivity"
double-check the password for your WiFi network. restart your WiFi router and connect again.

I have an Asus netbook which connect fine to my home's broadband service
using the same WEP password.  Anyway I power cycled the broadband
Wifi router & the Asus can still connect but not this Acer with Netgear dongle.

Hi Nobus,

Attached the "show hidden devices" screen : don't see any devices that
are not listed in solid black text

Without the Netgear Wifi dongle, View Available Wireless Networks certainly
does not show anything despite "Refreshing Network List".

With the Netgear dongle, sometimes, after clicking connect to my home Wifi
service, it says "Disconnected" but highlighting it would show the button
at the bottom as "Disconnect" : ironically odd ... refer to attached.

This Acer laptop is on Win XP Professional SP3

I uninstalled the Intel Proset Wireless software & got a later version of
Netgear software from the link below (which also has a .bat script to
install an MS patch) :

Could connect to my home Wifi now via Netgear.  The Acer built-in
Wifi remains a mystery though

I'm still pretty sure the Acer's built-in WiFi was working previously on this Travelmate 3202XCi
& there's a metallic sticker still there indicating "802.11b/g wireless LAN"
