OK , SO once Access point is downloaded with below OS , they will be shutdown as then they can only work while they are connected with CAPWAP ??  or how they would bheave ??

the reaosn i am aksing is , its a live production envirenemnt . now we have to install a WLC and move all access points on WLC to be managed , where Access points are already running in a particular configuration , which i beleive would not be lost once IOS is not upgraded  ???
In lightweight mode, they would require a WLC connection to operate.

The configuration would be lost from the autonomous AP's as they are reloaded with the lightweight OS.  They will however, pick up whatever settings you have already configured in the WLC.

I would test this first to make sure your WLC configuration is correct on a low traffic AP or a test AP.  You can preload all of the AP's with the lightweight OS, and it will not take affect until you reboot them.  You can do this programatically by typing "reload" in the CLI after all have been preloaded and it is a break time/lunchtime for the live environment.

well I have to study the preload feature for avoiding any down times .
craig is suggesting that preload can nt be used as I am not using lightweight OS in my case .

but AM I sure that i dont need to change the hardware for WLC ???
