Change hostname on Android phone
I am trying to clean up unauthorized devices on my network and when I look at my DHCP server and see the active leases I see several dozen Android devices. The devices show up as "Android-xasdlkjl4324sdf" or "Android-234lkjs09nl" etc thus making it impossible to tell who the device belongs to. I was able to obtain the "rogue" iphone's and change the hostnames to allow me to see at a glance on the DHCP server who's phone it is, but there doesn't appear to be an easy way to change the hostname for Android devices. I have a combination of Galaxy S3's, Samsung Rugby Pro's and LG Optimus G's.
Am I missing this setting or is there a little more to changing the hostname on an Android device?

wow, I had no idea something so seemingly simple wouldn't have an easy answer. I appreciate all the information, guys.

I appreciate the response. The LG Optimus G I am testing with didn't have the WIFI DIrect option.
I am a bit of a novice when it comes to droid devices. Couple of questions for you:
* is it difficult to root a droid device?
* what is required to do so?
* rooting a phone just means getting to the base OS, correct?
I did find a program called "DNS hostname changer" on Google Play.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.developersinfo.android.dns.changer&hl=en
Is this similar to what you are suggesting?
Thank you.
