Set-up:
-Microsoft XP
-USB 2.0
-D-Link USB Bluetooth Adapter (DBT-120)
-D-Link Bluetooth USB Printer Adapter (DBT-320)
-Lexmark Z45 (USB Printer - updated print drivers)
Since I can't locate my printer next to my computer, and I don't want to stretch cables accross the room, I thought this was a sweet set-up, but so far I've been unable to get it to work.
The printer works great when it's directly connected to the USB ports on my USB hub (through USB wire).
The Bluetooth adapter seems to work fine, and it recognized the printer adapter and let's me add it to the bluetooth neighbourhood. When I first connected the printer adapter, it recognized the printer and automatically installed the correct Lexmark print driver as a separate printer in my "Printer & Faxes".
The printer in my "Printer & Faxes" area, shows as being "Ready" and all the properties looks normal.
However, when I go to the Printer properties to print a test page, or print from word etc. it gives me the following error message:
"Incorrect Port Detected, the printer is designed to work with USB cables only. The current software setting is not set to USB port"
I'm obviously aware that I'm using the bluetooth adapter and not a USB cable, but I really thought that the USB printer server would work. When I look at the Ports section of the printer properties, it's using the Bluetooth port, and not the virtual printer port for USB that it uses when I connect the printer directly with a USB cable.
Is this an issue with my printer? ... I mean I know I don't exactly have the "sexiest" printer out there, but I really don't have much printing need at home so it works great for me. Is there any way to fool the printer to think that it's going through a USB port?
If I for some reason need to buy a new printer, how do I know which printers are compatible with this kind of set-up?
I'm also hoping that if I buy a new cellphone, it'll have bluetooth capabilities and i'll want to print from phone to the printer. Apparantly I need a PCL3 printer to be able to print from a mobile device over bluetooth, but I have no idea how to determine if my current printer is PCL3, or which printers out there are. Any thoughts?
I'd really appreciate the help ... I was so excited about this set-up, and now I hate that I can't get it working.
Thanks,
R
