I have purchased a GlobalSAT BT-359 Bluetooth GPS Navigation Receiver. I also have a Windows Mobile 6 smart phone - a Motorola Q9m. I am attempting to connect the two devices via a bluetooth connection.
I have been able to pair this GPS device by going to Bluetooth Manager, choosing 6 Settings, clicking the Menu button, choosing Paired Devices, clicking Menu/Add, clicking Menu/Show all devices, Select BT-GPS-36374B, enter Passkey for the device. The device then shows up under the Paired Devices.
Now in the Paired Devices, I can select the BT-GPS-36374B with the select button, I can see the actual device name, give it a Nickname, see the Bluetooth Address, and I can put a checkmark in Connections authorized. I then select the Done command.
Now you would think there should be some screen in which I could see which COM port the Q9m is using to talk to the GPS unit. There is no screen that displays this information.
I had a friend with a WM6 device, a T-mobile DASH. The T-Mobile Dash invokes "Comm Manager". Comm Manager is the overall program which allows all of the Bluetooth settings. Comm Manager allows you to ADD a new BT device. It searches, finds my BT-GPS-36374B device, prompts for the Passkey, indicates the phone is connected with the GPS unit, asks for a display name for the device - similar to the nickname that I could set on a Q9m. It then prompts for the Serial port, the user selects Done. Back in the
Bluetooth devices, the user selects the device and clicks on Menu, chooses 7 Com ports, clicks Menu, chooses 1 New Outgoing port, selects the GPS unit, the screen displays the Com port used and allows the user to uncheck "Secure Connection". The user chooses Done.
Now the user of a T-mobile DASH can use Microsoft LiveSearch, which can be downloaded from
http://livesearchmobile.com. On the Home Live Search screen click Menu, choose 1 Settings. The second field allows the user to select the GPS Com port to match the port from the Comm manager above. The user selects done which takes them back to the Live Search home page. The user selects Map, clicks Menu and chooses 4 Center on GPS. Live Search then displays the location of the GPS unit.
My Moto Q9m is seems to be missing the capability of displaying a COM port for a specific device. The only place I can see any information about BT com ports is back on the Bluetooth settings, clciking the Menu button and choosing Serial Ports. In the Serial Ports screen it displays
Inbound Com Port of BTC5
Outbound COM port of COM1
It lists the default device for outbound connections: US-5HBVGC1 (This is a computer in which I have NEVER connected to my Q9m, but it always shows up first in my list when I search for Bluetooth devices.) There is no method to select my GPS unit.
Any ideas how I can set the device for the Outbound connection?
