Question

Bluetooth (Laptop) Pairing Problem

Asked by: wmb02

How do I get my laptop (HP Pavilion dv7-1175nr Entertainment Notebook PC) bluetooth to pair with any bluetooth device (PDA or Headset)?  I have a problem pairing when attempting to pair my PDA (Sprint HTC Touch Pro), or any other bluetooth device for that matter (Headset, ect.).  The message "A Bluetooth device is requesting to connect to your computer. To allow this connection, click this message." pops up from my system tray, however when I click on it, it simply disapears without giving me a pairing dialogueto for entering the pairing code (Message attached).

I've tried uninstalling /  reinstalling the bluetoot drivers 8 times but receive the same unsuccessful attempted pairing results.  I would appreciate any assistance I can get.

Hi,

Have you tried connecting the other way round? I mean from the Notebook PC to the PDA?

Also, have you setup the bluetooth as shown here: http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-setup-a-Bluetooth-connection

Warm regards,
Sarang

saranqk 14,

As I indicated in my previous comment, my laptop pc does not recognize any bluetooth devices when I attempt to connect from the laptop to the PDA.  If I attempt to connect from the PDA to the laptop, the bluetooth connection message on my laptop simply disappears when I click on it to start the pairing process.  I never see the pairing dialogue.

Well, what I am asking is whether you have tried initiating the add device procedure from your laptop to connect to bluetooth device.

What you are currently doing (if i understand correctly), is that you turn on the bluetooth in both the devices and search for bluetooth devices from your PDA.

Also check the authentication settings for the bluetooth connection on the PDA and revert.

Sarang

My laptop is no longer recognizing my bluetooth dongle at all.

by: sarangk_14Posted on 2009-09-20 at 17:38:11ID: 25379669

Well,

Try and change the USB port on which you are connecting the dongle. Otherwise, check whether the dongle works on another laptop/ desktop.
Also, check whether any lights on the Bluetooth dongle glow when you connect it to the laptop.

I have dongle connectivity now however my laptop still does not recognize any bluetooth devices.

Hi,

As I mentioned in my earlier post, if you have been trying to establish the connection as follows:
1. Turn on the Bluetooth on the laptop as well as the PDA.
2. On the PDA search for the Bluetooth devices.
3. When the Bluetooth name for the Laptop is found, try to connect to it.

Try this now:

1. Turn on the Bluetooth on the laptop as well as the PDA.
2. On the laptop, search for the bluetooth devices.
3. When the Bluetooth name for the PDA is found, try to connect to it.

I am assuming here that you are aware and carrying out the Bluetooth connection sequence properly.

I have followed your instructions to the letter.  Once again my laptop DOES NOT find any bluetooth devices.  That is the problem.

by: sarangk_14Posted on 2009-09-25 at 20:24:33ID: 25428674

Well, can you try the dongle on another machine? or another dongle on your machine?

Regards,
Sarang

I already tryed this dongle on another machine and it works perfectly.  I also already tried two other dongles on this machine and neither works.  I'm out of options at this point except for reformating my hard drive.  That is certainly something I don't won't to to.

Hi,

One more question, the 8 times you tried re-installing the Bluetooth driver, was it the same driver or different drivers?

In case you tried the same driver, did you download the Bluetooth driver from the manufacturere's site or used one of the built-in Bluetooth drivers offered by the Windows?

Warm regards,

Sarang

I actually purched a new dongle /with software.  Uninstalled previous bluetooth software then installed new software and dongle.  I get the same unsuccessful results.  The Laptop does not recornized any bluetooth devices.  I do have my PDA (Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2) in discoverable mode.  I've tried all previous suggestions from Experts, but no success.  Any other suggestions?
NOTE:  My PDA finds my laptop, but when it goes into pairing mode and I click on the laptop message to acknowlege the pairing, the laptop message simply goes away without anything happenings.  I don't even get the option to pair from my laptop.  This is the same problem I initially had.
Would appreciate any other sugestions you might have.
Thanks,

What do you mean by this... that in Device Manager there is no entry present when you expand Bluetooth Radios?

Or that when you right-click the Bluetooth icon in the tray and choose Add a Bluetooth Device, the wizard is unable to see the PDA you have nearby in discoverable mode?

What operating system are you using, by the way?

by: wmb02Posted on 2009-10-02 at 12:40:56ID: 25481307

My operating system is Windows Vista 64 bit.

In Device Manager there is a Bluetooth Radios entry (see attchment)

In "Add a Bluetooth Device" there are NO entries (see attachment)

Sorry... I don't have word installed on this laptop, so I can't look at the attachment.

Thanks.

In the screen that shows no bluetooth devices, is there an Add button?

I see you said you uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, but have you updated its drivers to the latest version?
