GPRS is _packet_-switched network (not a cirquit-switched)!
All GPRS devices I have in my hands required that you put PPP traffic on serial connection between PC/palm/other equipment and GPRS device. So your microcontroller should start speaking and understanding PPP. And on top of that you will need to get a SMTP client which will contact SMTP server via PPP.
