Question

RAS Functions for GPRS Connections

Asked by: midilara

I'm developing an embedded Visual C++ application that could connect with a phone/modem GPRS and I tried the RAS Function, the application should work in PPC 2002 and PPC 2000 (I mean, the Connection Manager API, is not valid solution for PPC2000) , but I can't find the way to specify the APN (+cgdcont ...) in the RAS Function.

Does anybody know how to include the specific GPRS commands (APN,...) using  this functions?

Thanks in advance

I thought that the special commands were included in the .inf file. See MSDN DDK Modem Devices Protocol\GSM.

Two things ...

1.  if you can get a ras connection going, then why not just send the at command via the serial port?

2.  on PocketPC you probably want to look at the Microsoft CellCore API - this is the new API that incorporates the cellular interfaces you are looking for.  You can find this in the PPC Phone Ed and Smartphone SDK's from Microsoft.

You need to pass the APN to the handset in the form of a modem initialisation string. In Control Panel select the "modem" that is used by Windows (in my case this is a default 28800 baud modem), find the place where you can enter something like "Extra Settings"

You need to enter something like:
&K3;+CGDCONT=1,"IP","mobile.02.co.uk",0,0,0;+CGQREQ=1,0,0,3,0,0

The APN here "mobile.o2.co.uk" is for the "O2" network in the UK.

You will also be able to get to the modem in use via your Dial-Up Networking icon.

NOTE: On some versions of Windows it is not possible to add a string of this length in the field, in this case add a memorable string (like "hello mum") and then search for it in the Registry. When you have found it edit the entry to the required string and DO NOT try to change it in the modem setup again.

Hope this helps
