Connect the phone with cable on COM 1.

Start Hyperterminal

On the second dialog box, ConnectTo, choose COM1 from the drop down list of "Connect using"s.

You'll then get a property box, set the following :-

Bits per second: 9600
Data bits 8
Partity: None
Stop: 1
FlowControl: hardware

Then type in AT and press return.
This should appear on the screen together with "OK on the next line.

Type ATZ return and you can then start using the AT commands.

10ks Mr.BigRat,
In Hyperterminal i can write AT Commands but when i Press "enter" nothing happen. i mean it didn't execute the commands(no response). Second thing Nokia PC Suite 4.8 also cannot connect to the modem. It displays "No Phone Connected". But third party software can connect and also can send sms to the phone. I dono why the NOKIA PC Suite cannot recognise their own model. I don want to use third party software. i want to use AT Commands to communicate to my Nokia Modem using HyperTerminal(COM Port).
So if any one have solution please Tell me as soon as possible!

I too have a 6210 and a DLR-3 cable and this device IS GSM AT compliant, so I don't see why it doesn't work.

The plug which goes into the COM port does have a chip in it and it is possible that this is kaputt.

I'd try the COM 2 port if you have one.

I'd also enter ATZ which should reset the phone.

When you start hyperterminal and type ATZ in, do you see the ATZ on the screen? (IE: is the phone echoing?)

If you choose Call/Disconnect in the Hyperterminal Menu and disconnect the phone, the phone should display that the terminal connection was lost (hardware lines go down) and peep.

Actually Mr.BigRat i'm using Windows XP. So is there any thing wrong with Operating System? Or problem with my Cable?
i tried using Oxygen Phone Manager(third Part software). It works well. I can send SMS and other stuffs like ringtones n pict. msgs, etc. using Oxygen Phone Manager.

I hope they(Oxygen Software) also use AT commands(at the back) for this process.

but if we trying using Hyperterminal in WinXP, doesn't work. even i tried in VB also. No response too.

Please give me a solution as soon as possible.

Hi karthiq ,
As the statement above, I think that the problem is the BAUD RATE's diamatching or the cable is error.
You can verify your device can support the BAUD RATE, then re-create the standard modem for it, and you can use the AT COMMAND,AT+IPR?,to enquire the device to use the BAUD RATE.

by: karthiqPosted on 2003-04-29 at 02:26:43ID: 8418602

nop njabin,
i tried to change BAUD RATE also, still same thing.
now i found one vb source to restart handphone. What the prob is they straightaway giving HEX code instead of giving AT Commands. So, How can i change my AT Commands to HEX into that program.
for eg. they use HEX like the following:
1F 00 10 40 00 04 00 01 64 03 11

---- so do they jus convert At commands into HEX or Diff step using HEX format?
If different step they use, how can i use the command to do it.
--am i confusing,people?
let me tell u clearly.
Actually what i want to do is, to send SMS from Computer to Hndphone using MSComm control in VB. I give AT commands in VB but it don't response. And then i found one code. On that code they use to send above like(HEX) code send it through MSComm. so, i wan to know what HEX code can i give to send SMS?
Plz help Me Experts...

Hi karthiq ,
You can tell me What you get when you send the AT command to your handphone?
What kinds of BAUD RATE you set?
You can set the BAUD by AT+IPR=baud_rate or to enquire the baud by AT+IPR?
As for the AT COMMAND to send the SMS is shown as follows:
AT+CMGC Send command (SMS)
AT+CMGD Delete message (SMS)
AT+CMGF Message format (SMS)
AT+CMGL List messages (SMS)
AT+CMGR Read message (SMS)
AT+CMGS Send message (SMS)
AT+CMGW Write message to memory (SMS)
AT+CMSS Send from storage (SMS)
AT+CNMI New message indics to TE (SMS)
AT+CESP Enter block mode (SMS)
If you want to get the detail information ,please look at the GSM 07.07.
I'm soory to the HEX code,I dont know it.

It might actually be the case, after checking the phone on my XP machine, that you really have a hardware problem.

Normally one would drive the phone at 9600 with hardware handshaking. You might try switching to Xon/Xoff at a higher rate. The hardware lines don't have to be raised for that.

I'm at an end! My 6210 with DLR-3 cable works perfectly as a GSM modem and sends SMSs no problem! Are you ABSOLUTELY sure that you have a Nokia 6210 phone?

You can try www.gnokii.org for the MBUS/FBUS protocols and tools.

"On the Code(sample VB that i download) they use MBUS Protocol"

The 6210 is AT GSM enabled. I have no idea whether it works with MBUS, but if you send the code to bigrat18@hotmail,com I'll have a look at it for you.

Hi all,

My gf just bought a 6610 yesterday. Out of curiosity, I tried it over the infrared link of my laptop, and it appeared that I needed to hit twice the Enter key in HyperTerminal before the thing would react. Else, everything was working fine.

Just thought I'd mention it...

Guys, I don't really understand what are you talking about....

Those "bytes" (1F 00 10 40 00 04 00 01 64 03 11) are a whole different idea than AT commands - this is a frame in MBUS protocel designed for Nokias... (1F -MBUS,  00 - for cellphone,  10 -from service software,  40 -security command, 00 04 - data length, 00 01 64 03 - data block, 11 - sequence number,   there is one missing CRC here).

AT commands is a concept of sending text AT commands INSTEAD of these bytes, but on DIFFERENT phones (phone has to support these protocols), for example Siemenses.

Pay attention - I'm not getting into whether 6210 supports AT commands or not, fact is I hace no idea, but I simply wanted to clear this "bytes" concept, which, by the way i implemented some time ago for Nokia 3210 <-> PC connection. (And it costed lot of blood by the way ;)  )

its nice that u have mentioned about mbus and fbus
can i just ask some favor if you could share some codes in hex like the one you have exampled
for sending and receiving the content of the mobile phone.

pls  email to : kikojam@eudoramail.com

Hello kikojambo,

I personally dislike MBUS. But if you want to get into it, I advise:
http://www.mwiacek.com/english

I don't recall if everything there is in English, since I'm Polish as the author of page. But most is in english for sure.

Gammu project has all the solutions, and you can get the code to analyze. I also suggest the 'download' section and materials (Nokia develop), I got most of my info from there.

hi karthiq,
i have ur problem EXACTLY, nothing shows after the AT commands on hyperterminal, and i need to use Mscom, but i can't as i get no response from the modem. The modem i use is Nokia 6210 mobile

PLZ PLZ PLZ, if u know what is the cuz of this problem reply me

by: ellanglePosted on 2003-07-11 at 09:45:30ID: 8904130

hi rania14

actually hyperterminal is not good for transmiting data, it is used to do some commands test or do some configuration. if once you configured the coms connection such as baudrate, bytesize, stopbits or flowcontrol etc. you will get the window then type AT + return, response "OK" otherwise the connection was not established, one possible reason is, the system's com port is not activated; the other is the cable type is wrong or broken, check the cable's type for the specific handset or modem from the provider or internet.

if you can get the response"OK", look up the "AT commands for ****" from internet, there should be some documents for specific equipments, for example "Nokia****". no all the commands suitable for certain equipment.

as i mentioned, the hyperterminal is not good to develop an application. if you are interested, try to design by yourself using vc or vb.

kind regards,

ellangle.
