I have a Wavecom Fastrack modem and a GPRS line, running on a Windows XP system. I have tried some of the suggestions listed here but none of them worked as described.
Was able to communicate with the modem via Hyperterminal and it responded to both the +CGATT and +CGDCONT AT commands. Both commands returned positive repsonses. I even tried dialing to my GPRS provider at *99***1# and got connected, showed some garbage characters then ended with a NO CARRIER response. Some people suggested that this is normal.
The big problem comes when I try to access the same GPRS connection with the Fastrack modem being set up as a Standard 56000 kbps Modem. I have set the Fastrack Modem speed to 115,200 kbps(using +IPR AT command) and also the Maximum Port speed to the same.
I set the dial-up networking (Network Connection in Windows XP) to dial to my GPRS provider at *99***1#. Added the extra initialization string for the modem as AT +CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
What seems to be the problem here ? Could anyone help ?

You does not need a ppp/tcp/ip chip if you order a GSM module / modem like listed on http://www.gsm-modem.de/gp

well, i try here, cause as a question i've been removed from the list. probably nobody has encountered this problem or doesn;t know how about. fact is that i found out another user had the same problem and the answer came for here was avsolutly poor....so i try again. i try to connect an embeded system using an wavecom gsm/gprs modem to the internet. so i follow all the steps, the few AT commands, then connect, then lcp negotiation, and pap. now, i send the pap request, the peer (from the mobile service provider) answers me with ACK and even more gives me an worm Wellcome! followed imediatrly by a TERMREQ command....which lead eventually to drop the line...So, can anyone tell me why so? Thanks!

If you want to connect to web with hyperterminal . Only your GPRS phone is not enough . you need a ppp/tcp/ip chip.
