You can set dial-up networking to use it as a normal internet connection.

For example - but procedure is similar for all GPRS modems, not just MC35.

How to install a Siemens MC35T under windows XP for a GPRS Connection.

1.      Follow the quick start instructions for how to set the MC35T up on your computer.
2.      With the MC35T connected directly to your PC via a 9-way serial port (not a USB to serial adaptor) go to Control panel and go to “Phone and modem options”
3.      Click on the modem tab along the top of the dialog box and click on “Add”
4.      On the next box that appears be sure to click the “Don’t detect my modem; I will select it from a list” and click “Next”.
5.      When the “Install New Modem” screen appears, pick standard modem types on the left and select “Standard 19200bps Modem” from the menu on the right..  Click “Next”
6.      On the next screen be sure to select the correct com port the MC35T is to be installed on by highlighting it and click “Next”
7.      The next box should confirm that the modem has been installed.
8.      Follow the instructions for changing the properties of the modem by going back to “phone and modem options” in control panel.
9.      Click on properties to bring up the configuration screen.
10.      Go through each of the tabs along the top and make sure your modem is configured correctly.
11.      Ensure you put the correct APN for your GPRS network provider in this box.. the Generic command is AT+CGDCONT=1,IP, <APN>  The APN in this case it is “Internet” as I am using a Vodafone connection.
12.      Your MC35T is now set-up correctly under windows.  The next stage is to configure “Dial up Networking” for your GPRS connection.
13.      Go to “Network Connections” in Control panel and double click…
14.      Click on “New Connection Wizard”
15.      Just click “Next” on the first screen, on the “Network Connection Type” screen select “Connect to the Internet”
16.      On the next screen select “Set up my Connection manually” and click next.
17.      On the next box, select “Connect using a dial-up modem” and click “Next”
18.      On the” Select a Device” box, make sure you choose the “Standard 19200 bps modem” and click “Next”
19.      Type in the name of the ISP .. You can call it anything you like … Click “Next”
20.      In the next box, put the phone number for your GPRS connection.. the standard number is *99***1#…
21.      On the next screen you can make your own mind up about who has access to the connection. And click “Next”.
22.      On the “Internet Account Information” screen make sure you put the correct username and password as supplied by your GPRS provider. The username and password I have used is for Vodafone GPRS.  It is also recommended to disable the windows XP firewall. Click “Next”
23.      The last screen is just to confirm your settings, if you are happy with them click “Finish”
24.      You are now ready to surf the web using GPRS.  If there are any problems with getting a dial out working, please make sure….

A.      Your SIM card is enabled for INTERNET GPRS services. Not WAP.
B.      Your other windows settings for Internet explorer are correct.
C.      You do not have another modem inside the computer that is being used. GPRS commands will not work on a standard PC modem!

a) standard windows driver should be fine.
b) yes
c) APN is the Access Point Name, and will be given to you by your network provider.
d) Yes, GPRS network is your GSM network provider

You don't need physical phone lines, just an antenna! - and the SIM card.
