As long as you have a connection which has a static public IP, you should have no issues connecting to it from anywhere.
To test it out, connect the PC to the terminal, make sure your IP conffigs are set right and then try to ping / connect to the public ip from some external machine on the network.
Remember to turn of the firewall, or allow ICMP requests (ping) or open the port you need to connect to.
Once this is done, you should be able to connect as and when required, via Remote Desktop or any other utility, or even ftp, telent into your machine.

Try www.logmein.com It is remote desktop control similar to gotomypc. They have a free version which should be all you need. This gets around any type of port forwarding that you would need to setup to use something like PCAnywhere or VNC.
