Browse All TopicsHi Ive been reading some of the discussions on how sending of sms operates. Id like to you guys to validate and confirm my understanding so far :
so ive heard there are 3 ways to send messages :
1) cellphone --> SMSC (Telco)
* this will send one sms message at a time
* each cellphone has its own mini GSM modem
2) pc --> gsm modem (with simcard from provider) --> SMSC (Telco)
* this will enable you to send messages by batch, close to 900 msgs per hour
* question : is it possible to have more than 1 GSM modem to increase the number of messages?
3) pc and a direct internet connection to telco.
* is this some kind of special internet connection/line? leased line? must be a dsl or cable?
* enables you to send bigger number messages. ie. 600 msgs per minute
* there are several protocols that may be supported by SMSC's.. such as
SMPP, UCP, CIMD2, OIS/TAP and probably SMTP for newer gateways (?)
* Which one is the most popular and most preferred protocol? smpp? ucp? in in Asia (Philippines)
* Question: GSM Modem are wireless? or are there GSM modems that are not wireless?
* Question : where does kannel comes is? lets say im already have a service agreement with one telco/SMSC for a subscription and i have a GSM modem.. would i need Kannel? is kannel only for SMSC operators?
* If i want to implement a "PULL" sms service, do i need to have a special agreement with the telco or is just a matter of parsing the incoming messages and executing the corresponding actions (in simple terms).
sorry so many questions.. hope you guys can clarify these things for me. Im a developer and im trying jump in the wireless bandwagon :)
