The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Noob Question: How to access SIM in GSM phone

Asked by wuffy in Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)

Tags: sim, toolkit

Hello,

Currently, we are trying to develop an application that would enable us to access certain cellular network provider applications residing in the SIM card.   For example, we would like to check the remaining account balance of a cellular phone through a PC application.  Normally, the way to do this is to access to browse the SIM menu (using the phone navigation buttons) and choose the application made by the cellular phone network provider.   What I would like to do is create an application that will do that, input other necessary information that is needed by the SIM application and execute the application through my PC instead of the the mobile phone.

From what I know from the Internet, there are perhaps 2 things that I need to use:

1) GSM AT commands
2) Smart Toolkit Commands

The equipment I have is a standard GSM modem that is connected to the PC via serial port.  I would like to use Java as my programming language.

I'm an absolute noob so I was wondering if anyone can point me to the right direction as to where I can being my research.   I am confused as to where I am supposed to begin.  Can anyone please give me an idea on how to go about this probject.

Many thanks to those who can respond.

Regards.
