You'll need a USB driver for your GSM device. Once you have it installed, you can use your phone/modem as if it were connected to a serial (COMx) port and send AT commands for it and receive the results.

I have a driver for my USB cable, nokia pC suite, but I am not aware of the the USB driver for my GSM device. Could you give some example or direct me please to a site where I could find one of this. My GSM device is Nokia 7250i.  Please... thanks!

Nokia PC Suite should install that driver. After you've installed it, run HyperTerminal and check if you have a new COM port besides the "usual" COM1 and/or COM2. If you do, type "AT" and check if the modem responds with "OK".

However, thought you'll be able to send SMSs, Nokia PC Suite may prevent you from receiving SMSs using AT commands by retrieving the messages to the PC before you could read them from the modem.

I am having a problem in installing the driver for my USB DKU-5, First the installation is succesfull, but when I tried to open the device manager it looks for the USB driver, so I try uninstall it and reinstall it again, but same thing happen. I have tried the driver from nokia DKU-5 CD package and from the nokia website. I really nid help here... :(

the DKU-5 cable encapsulates a USB-to-Serial convertor so that the phone end works as a standard RS232 UART while the PC end sees a virtual COM port.

So whatever you might do over COM1 should be possble over whatever COM port the DKU-5 driver provides

Regarding the modem connection (and presumably the modem control lines) that very much depends on what Nokia have implemented in the PC-end driver

You can try this steps to troubleshoot the DKU-5:

Step 1: Extract the driver file into your hardisk of computer
Step 2: Connect the DKU-5 USB data cable to USB port of your computer
Step 3: The computer system should detect there is a USB device found, then select the corresponding driver of operation system for this USB data cable, then the computer system will assign a virtual COM port (COM port 3 or COM port 4) for this USB data cable. (you may also find the corresponding number of virtual COM port which assigned for by system in hardware secection of system in contral panel).
Step 4: Install the Nokia PC Suite software, during installation, the software will try to detect the USB data cable, you may just waive it, and select COM port 3 or COM port 4 which assigned by computer system to go ahead the PC Suite software installation.
Step 5: After the Nokia PC Suite software successful installed in your computer, then re-start the computer.
Step 6: After the computer re-started, power on the 7210 mobile phone, then connect the 7210 phone to the computer via using the DKU-5 data cable.
Step 7: You may see the 7210 phone under data mode, and the Nokia PC suite should detect the 7210 phone found, then you may run PC suite programs.

Or you can juggle with this steps:

1- uninstall any softwear you had already installed such as DKU-5 and the Nokia softwear for the 6610
2-connect the cable and restart the computer
3- follow the installation wizard
4- when you get a massage that the softwear is not competible with winxp just hit continue anywere
5- you will be asked to insert a certin Nokia CD for the file namd USBVSP.SYS, you will find the file in the WINDOWSXP directory\system32\drivers
6- continue the installation
7- install the softwear of your phone.
