i have a subdomain set up on my website purely for wap access written in wml. what id like to know is is it possible to download images (for wallpaper) and midi files (for ringtones) from my server to my phone (which is nokia 3510i if that bears any relevance). for example would connecting direct to a file (eg. http://www.domain.com/ring

I have a problem in downloading the file on a mobile. It takes the name of the asp, not the actual filename, i.e. it saves it as download.asp *NOT* ringtone.mid
I have tried the following code on a normal browser it opens a download dialog box with the correct filename, when I try to use it on a wap browser, it tries to save it using the .asp filename.

This is not what I was looking for. I do send the correct polyphonic format to the mobile and the mobile understands it, but the point is that the mobile takes the name os the asp or the php file instead of the name that I send in the header.
I have solved this problem by an indirect way using apache server, but I do not know how to do it on other servers.
The apache server searches in the previous folders in case it does not find the file that it was looking for. So, what I did is the following:
I use the url:
http://myserver/phpfile.ph
This solved the problem because the mobile takes that last part of the url and takes it as the filename.
If anybody knows another way to solve this, please do reply as soon as possible.

In principle, yes, if your mobile phone WAP browser can access your web site, then you should be able to download your ringtones etc.
However, AFAIK, midi isn't a format that is recognised by phones. You'll need to convert the midi file into a format that a Nokia understands. I've only come across a few formats for Nokia, including RTTTL (RingTones Text Transfer Language).

The alternative to download over-the-air (OTA) is to use a cable connection between your PC and phone and a software package to do the transfer. I'm not sure what's available, since I haven't done it myself, but I may be able to help if you can't find anything yourself.
