Passing WML variable to PHP script

I have two PHP scripts that generate WML pages. The first script read a question and some possible answer from a database and provides the user with a form to select an answer. The second page writes the users answer in a different table in the same database. The problem is now to get the variables from one script to another. I have tried the following two solutions for this:

echo '<anchor>Answer';
echo '<go href="answer.pwml" method="post">';
echo '<postfield name="answer" value="$(answer)"/>';
echo '</go>';
echo '</anchor>';

and

echo '<do type="accept" label="Answer">';
echo '<go href="answer.pwml?answer=$(answer)"/>';
echo '</do>';

While both solutions works fine in a WAP emulator, the problem is that neither work on a cell phone. The first solution result in the message saying that the request could not be fulfilled when I try to open the page, and the second solution does not give me any way of submitting the answer.

My question is simple, can anybody explain to me what I am doing wrong?
