I am developing java based application that would allow registered users to send web page content as SMS or MMS to their cell phone.
It is not necessary to have 2-way sms messaging, except of course receiving some kind of status on my server like message successfully delivered.
Initially the application is targeted for USA market so it must work with USA mobile operators.
I am looking for open source free software ( examle is kannel) to install on my server to be able to send sms in above scenario. My server is Linux Centos 5 on a VPS with a hosting company located in USA.
So what software do you know about and suggest to use to solve my problem.
I want to eliminate very costly middle men or aggregators like simplewire or clickatell unless you know of very cheap aggregator, let me know. Of course using aggregator I dont have to install gateway software specified above.
I think some one who has experience in developing sms/mms gateway software or installation/setup in a production environment of such software( I mean which results in the development of real world website such as gizmosms.com) should be able to answer my question.
Bascially what I am also asking that after the installation of such software which they call SMS or MMS WAP gateway on my server, do I need other pieces of hardware or software that would provide complete production level solution. Or do I need to make service agreements with mobile operators like Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobil etc. in the USA market to complete the solution if I am not using aggregators like simplewire or clickatell? I am looking for a solution that eliminates the need to deal with mobile network operators like Verizon, Cingular etc. or to deal with costly middle men aggregators like simplewire.
