I'm working on an IBM ThinkPad G41. The machine could not connect to a wep wireless network originally, I have another G41 with ThinkVantage Access Connections installed that has no problem connecting to this network. So I followed the instruction for installing ThinkVantage Access Connections on the originally stated laptop including installing the power management driver, ThinkPad hot key program, the latest version of the network card driver, and then ThinkVantage Access Connections. Currently the program cannot find any wireless networks and the radio is powered on. If I set Windows to configure my wireless network settings it will find wireless networks. When Windows is set to configure my wireless network setting I can connect to non-encrypted networks, but not encrypted networks. I am looking for a solution that either gets IBM Access Connections or Windows Wireless Networking to connect to my wep enabled network. Please let me know if there is any more information needed. Thanks.

Does you network broadcasting SSID? If you enter it on the first tab - will it try to connect?
If you enter your security settings you need to enter SSID. If you click Find Network, your security setting will not apply.
Also, there are 2 most popular security settings there:
- Use static WEP keys (old fashion way)
- Use Wi-Fi protected Access - pre Shared Key (WPA-PSK)
Do you know exactly what method do you have on your wireless router/AP?
I found a solution to my problem. The access point I am trying to connect to is a Cisco AP350. To get the laptop wireless card to work with this access point I removed the thinkvantage access connections, allowed Windows to control my wireless network settings, and enabled IEEE 802.1x authentication for the network. Right after that I was able to connect without a problem. Thanks for the help.

First of all get the latest AccessConnections.
When you open it and click Manage-> Create, Do you see your network adapter(s) in the listbox?
What do you select in dropdown #2 (Type of network connection) ?
On the next page there is a dropdown field #4 - Wireless security type. You need to choose proper one amd click Properties to get a form to enter your WEP passkeys...
