Browse All TopicsI am a novice at SQL. I am tried to insert records into AS400/DB2 file using a simple SQL statement but am getting duplicate records, even though I check if record/key already exists using the following statement:
insert into surveyor.CreatePN
select INVORP,INVDSC, INVTYP,'Active', INVGLC, ' ' , ' ',INVVND,INVORP, ' ', ' ', ' ', ' ', ' ' , INVPRC, 'None' , 'Revenue', INVUOM, 'Non-Returnable', ' ', ' ' , 'Days', INVSHL , INVSHL, 0 , 'No' , ' ' , ' ' , INVORP , ' ' , ' ', 0, ' ' , 0, ' ' , ' ' , INVET2, digits(invchp)||'-'|| digits(invsec)|| '-'|| digits(invprt),' ', ' ' , ' ' from prplibr.pfinvms where invdel = ' ' and invet1 in ('EMB','ERJ','CRJ', ' ') where not exists
(select '1' from surveyor.CreatePN where PartNo=INVORP);
PartNo is for file CreatePN and INVORP for file pfinvms.
I am thinking this does not work because the records which are duplicating have not actually been added to the file until completion of the SQL statement processing.
So, likely I need a "loop" /routine to read the source file, check if exists in the destination file, insert from source. I have not found an example in any solutions so far which read two files and update one.
Thank you for any assistance any of you may be able to provide.
