The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Hard Disk is not initializable (Device not ready/media corrupt)

Asked by bdheller in Apple Operating Systems, Apple

I really need help! My hard disk had some errors in the last months but
norton disk doctor was able to repair the disk each time. Now i decided
to format the hard disk in order to get rid of these errors.
I backed up all my files and started from an nomai mcd. So far so good,
then i tried to initialize the hard disk with apples hd_sc_setup (don´t
know the exact name) which i patched with resedit so, that it finds my
IBM 1GB hard disk, too, and not only apple disks.
It found the device on SCSI ID 0 and i pressed the Initialize-button:
the cursor changed to the rotating wheel but there were no sounds from
the hard disk. After 10 minutes or so, i stopped the program with
command-option-escape and rebooted.
This time hd_sc_setup didn´t find the hard disk any more. I tried FWB
Hard Disk Toolkit: it found the hard disk, but when i try to format or
test or to do anything else with the hard disk it says "Device is not
ready." (it is an internal harddisk so i cannot switch it off, and i
hear the sound of the rotating disks so it is on) when i look at the
detailed error message it says "media wrong or corrupted".
I never had such a serious problem before and don´t know what to do
know, i hope anyone here has enough knowledge and experience to help me!Start Free Trial
