Cannot open word documents created in MAC Office 2008 in Windows Office 2003/XP

I have created word documents in MAC Office 2008 (which has tables), and when i try to open these documents in Windows Office 2003 I get the following window "File Conversion" I have attached the picture of what comes up and no matter which option I chose from it, it displays jibberish characters.
