rename reserved folder (Desktop) OSX 10.9.3
Hi,
In the past I have renamed my 'Desktop' folder to 'Goggle Drive' I would like to revert the process.
The folder is display on my side bar is -> Google Drive
In finder if I Right click on 'Google Drive' and select rename to 'Desktop' I received the message:
The name "Desktop" is already taken. Please choose a different name.
From Terminal, ls command I can see I have both folder, Desktop and Google Drive.
How to fix this please?
Thanks,
Rodrigo

Copy the contents of Google Drive to the desktop folder and delete Google Drive.

I can't see/enable the 'Desktop' folder using finder.
I am assuming you suggestion requires the use of Teminal.
Can you provide the commands please?
Thanks.

Is the Google Drive connected to your Google account and is syncing with your drive at Google?
To move the content of your current Google Drive to your ~/Desktop:
Open Terminal and type:
sudo mv -vi
Add one space after the -vi
Drag the content into the Terminal window. Add one space after it has finished.
Type: ~/Desktop
The sudo part will give you extra power for this operation and it will ask you for your password.
The -v allows you to watch as the process happens (usually very quick)
The -i will ask if you want to overwrite a file/folder with the same name. Answer with y or n (y for yes, n for no)
It is definitely best to use Google Drive for Google uses only as it syncs with the space you have on Google and just leave "Desktop" for its use.

If the Desktop folder doesn't show up after this, let us know.

Thanks Sigurdur.
Google Drive is not installed on this machine. It was previously.
I have followed your steps you can se the results below.
I've just noticed both folders are in sync. From terminal using the command ls I can verify the contents from 'Google Drive' folder is the same as 'Desktop'.
Any suggestions?

ok. Nice
Just be careful not to delete the Google Drive just yet. Move it to another drive first to be absolutely that you are not deleting anything. Then if Desktop and the saved folders are the same it is fine to delete.

I've moved the contents of 'Google Drive' elsewhere.
Renamed 'Google Drive' to 'Google'
On Finder, preferences if I select 'Desktop' on sidebar option I can see 'Google' folder and if I try to rename it to 'Desktop' the same error persists.
The name "Desktop" is already taken. Please choose a different name.
