Macbook Upgrade Yosemite OSX

As I am watching new questions (on EE) come along I have noticed a common trend of users having issues with Yosemite and the user's degraded wifi performance.  All are various issues of course, but the main thing I notice is its when users upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite.

What are the reasons for this?  Why is Mavericks seemingly different than Yosemite in regards to wifi?
