Macbook Pro Airplay to Apple TV

Recently, I have noticed that after upgrading to Yosemite OSX there is significant lag when I use Airplay to my Apple TV. When I was on Mavericks OSX there was never an issue of lag. The same thing happened with my wife's macbook pro. After I upgraded to Yosemite hers still had Mavericks and I did confirm using Airplay did not have lag on her macbook. However, after she upgraded to Yosemite her macbook experienced the Airplay lag as well.

Here is what I have tried:

I've restarted both the macbook pro and Apple TV and connect to Airplay, but there is no improvement.

I have replaced the HDMI cable that connects from the Apple TV to my TV.

My Apple TV is connected to my Airport Extreme via ethernet cable. (Always has been.)

I have turned off the wireless on my macbook and connected an ethernet cable from the macbook to the airport extreme. (There was slight improvement but still noticeable lag; it was tolerable I guess.)

The Apple TV, Airport Extreme and Macbook are all up to date with their software. (pending a result here: https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28685793/How-do-I-upgrade-my-wireless-software-on-my-Macbook-Pro.html)

The Apple TV has not had degraded performance at any other time.

The fact that I have 3 Apple devices and am still experiencing this is super annoying.

What are my options?

Yosemite 10.10.4 was released. I updated my macbook, ran airplay (turns out its 1st/2nd generation), and there is no more lag.

- Bluetooth was never on because I never had a use for it.
- I did not try dual booting to Mavericks. I was just hoping Apple would fix their *bleep*.
